The two Hungarians not only played music, they were themselves the music – in every nerve – down to their fingertips.

Tuned to Each Other

Chamber Orchestra of the Bartók Conservatoire

The Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music, Instrument Making and Repair of the Liszt Academy, or Konzi, as it is often referred to, has a long tradition of chamber music training. Each year, the school forms small and large chamber music groups, so that students can study a composition from the repertoire written for a particular instrumentation. These formations are by their very nature occasional ensembles, but at the same time, the shared experience of the intensity of chamber music playing can sometimes become the starting point for long-lasting, even lifelong friendships and collaborations between musicians, or, to put it simply, a life-changing event. Nothing could be more natural than that the programme of “Tuned to One Another” should include, alongside major and popular works from the chamber music repertoire, compositions that are less often heard, but all this is perhaps secondary to the fact that at such a concert the audience can witness the decisive and unrepeatable first steps of musicians’ careers.
